1980 Gay Alliance became Gay and Lesbian Alliance (GALA) and received financial support from the student services fee fund for the first time

1988 (or earlier) GALA became University Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Alliance (ULGBA)

1990 GLBT Advisory Commission (also known as the Commission of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Diversity Issues) founded

1992 First (known) survey of the climate at UMD with regard to lesbian, gay, and bisexual people was administered by ULGBA

1996 (or earlier) UMD's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center (sometimes known as the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center) founded and initially run by existing staff and students

1999 ULGBA became University Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Alliance (ULGBTA)

2000 Queer Students Union (QSU) founded; Angie Nichols hired as first full-time director of UMD's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center (Statesman 9/14/2000)

2001 UGLBTA held its first drag show in the spring; the drag show happened once each semester most years afterwards

2006 QSU became Queer and Allied Student Union (QASU) (current name as of spring 2024)

2006 First Annual National Coming Out Day Luncheon

2006 "Transgender" added to health services form

2007 First LGBT Studies Class offered: "CST 2001: Introduction to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies"

2011 (or earlier, but post-2004) GLBT Advisory Commission became Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Allied Advisory Commission

2012-2013 TRANS*FORMATION (student organization) founded (brochure)

2014-2015 Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Allied Advisory Commission became GLBTQAI (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Asexual [or possibly Allied], Intersex) Commission

2015 LGBTQ Studies Minor added

2016 (or slightly earlier) Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Services (almost certainly a renaming of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center) became Sexuality and Gender Equity Initiatives (current name as of spring 2024)

2018 Queer, Trans, and Intersex Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Collective (the name is sometimes given as Queer, Trans, Intersex, Indigenous People and People of Color Collective [QTIIPOCC]) founded

2022-2023 GLBTQAI Commission became Commission QT (current name as of spring 2024)
