Finding Your Item

For most people, placing an ILL request is done easily through the library catalog. To check if we have access to an item by using the library catalog you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Kathryn A. Martin Library's homepage in your web browser
  2. In the "Libraries Search" bar, type your item's title
  3. Click the maroon "Go" button on the right
  4. Once you have found your item, click the "Request from other libraries" link listed at the bottom of the record

TIP: Please scroll through the results list to see if what you're looking for is available at Kathryn A. Martin Library or through University of Minnesota Libraries Get It system. Some of the item records created by our library or the University of Minnesota campus libraries load slower and show up further down the results list because they are more complete than their ILL counterparts.

  5.  Under the "Request from other libraries" section, choose whether you would like a physical copy or a digital chapter by clicking the blue "Request" button in the respective light grey tiles
  6. Choose your desired delivery location from the "Pickup Location" dropdown menu
  7. Add any notes about the request in the "Note" section (Ex - "I need this edition only")
  8. Click the green "Send" button in the lower right corner

Can't Find Your Item in the Catalog?

If you can't find what you're looking for by searching the catalog but you know the citation of your item, we have an Interlibrary Loan Blank Request Form. To fill out the form, you will need the following information:

  • Title
  • Author (if you would like a chapter from a book, you should list the article author)
  • Chapter/article title or page range
  • Volume and Issue

Instructions for submitting the form:

  1. Input your item's information (listed above) in the proper field
  2. Choose your delivery format near the bottom of the form
  3. Choose your pickup location from the "Pickup Location" dropdown menu
  4. Click the green "Send Request" button in the lower right corner

University of Minnesota Libraries Get It Service

University of Minnesota Libraries are dedicated to providing all students, faculty, and staff with access to high quality information. To achieve this, all University of Minnesota libraries (Twin Cities, Duluth, Morris, and Crookston) have created our own resource sharing system called Get It.
