MPS 8001 Research Guide

Databases

If you're getting started with research, consider starting with a general database. Both Articles & Books and Academic Search Ultimate offer a wide range of materials from all the disciplines taught at UMD.

For more specific content, check out the subject pages below. They list all the library databases relevant to their subjects:

If you're interested in any other subjects, take a look at the full A-Z databases list, which breaks out all the library's resources by subject:

Find Books and Films

In order to find books, you can search the library catalog:

The checkout period for most materials is 90 days. If no one has requested the materials when your checkout period has expired, the materials will renew automatically. When materials are returned, they are quarantined for 5 days.

If for any reason you are not able to come to campus, feel free to request materials for home delivery. You can make that request by clicking "Get It" in the library catalog and selecting "Home Delivery." You can also use Get It to request that materials in the library be taken off the shelf and held for you at the front desk. We'll send you an email as soon as your items are ready!

If the library doesn't hold a book you're looking for, you can search WorldCat. Worldcat will show you whether other libraries hold the item you're looking for and give you the information you will need to request the item from another library:

To request an item from another library, make an interlibrary loan request:

Materials requested through interlibrary loan will come from other libraries. Most requests will arrive within 1-2 weeks. All interlibrary loan materials, like other library materials, are quarantined for five days on arrival.
