MU 8222 Research Guide

Introduction

This is a quick introduction to the resources that will be useful to you as a graduate student at UMD. This guide isn't intended to cover everything—to see all the available digital resources in Music, visit the A-Z databases list:

If you have questions about your research or library resources, contact your librarian!

Find Scores and Books

In order to find scores and books, you can search the library catalog:

Use the "Scores" filter on the right-hand side of the search page to restrict your search to scores.

In addition to scores and books, the catalog contains ebooks, DVDs, videos, government documents, music recordings, and teaching materials.

You can browse these call number areas on the 4th floor of the library to find music and books related to the study of music:

  • Music
  • ML Literature on Music
  • MT Instruction and Study

You can also search the Naxos Sheet Music Library:

If the library doesn't hold a score or book you're looking for, you can search WorldCat here:

If you would like to broaden the diversity of your repertoire, the Department of Music has developed an online bibliography for repertoire diversity. You can access that guide here:

Streaming Music and Video

Through Naxos, users can stream an extensive library of classical, jazz, folk, and world music recordings, in addition to classical music performances, operas, ballets, live concerts and documentaries.
