SciFinder is a research discovery tool that allows you to explore the CAS databases containing literature from many scientific disciplines including biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, materials science, agricultural science, and more!
You MUST be a CURRENT UMD student, faculty, or staff to use Sci-Finder Scholar.
SciFinder Scholar is now a web-based only product. (If you have a computer based version, it will no longer work but you can use your same user name and password.)
To begin the process of logging in, go to http://www.d.umn.edu/lib/ref/dbdesc/scifindwnldhome2.htm
Click on "Register to use SciFinder Web and then follow the directions.
The screen will ask for your first and last name and your e-mail address (and then retype your e-mail address). You MUST use your UMD e-mail address. There are other boxes to fill out but they are not mandatory.
You also have to choose a User Name and password. These should not be the same as your UMD e-mail account. You need to use these rules to set up your user name and password.
Username must be 5-15 characters and contain at least one letter. It must start with a letter or number, but may include numbers, dashes, underscores, periods, or @.
Your password must contain a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 15 characters.
At least 2 of the characters in your password must be different from your username.
Your password must include at least three (3) of the following:
- Mixed upper and lowercase letters
- Non-alphanumeric characters (e.g., @,#,%,&,*)
You will be required to answer a security question in case you forget/lose your password.
After you enter your information and CAS reviews and verifies it, they will send you an e-mail. You will need to respond to their e-mail. If you didn't put in your UMD e-mail address, they will also let you know.
