Welcome to Course Reserves

Course Reserve is a library service that provides access to materials that a professor or instructor has identified as being important to his/her course. Any faculty, instructor or TA can place items on reserve for courses they are teaching to ensure availability of the material to students.

How can I place items on reserve?

You can request items be placed on reserve for your course a couple of ways.

You can download the Reserve Processing Request form below. Please be sure to include all course and item information. You can email the completed form to

Forms are also available to fill and submit in person at the library Circulation Desk.

Items can be placed on reserve with a 3 hour loan or a 1 day loan period.

What can be placed on reserve?

Library owned books, videos, and other media assigned for class reading or viewing.

Personal copies of books, journals, videos and audiocassettes may be placed on reserve. For more information and library policies for placing personal copies on course reserve go to the Personal copies tab.

How soon will my request be processed?

Requests are processed in the order they are received. Materials are often available the day the reserve request was received. Please be aware that personal copies require anywhere from 1 to 4 days to process and become available for student check out. Reserve processing at the beginning of semester may take longer due to the amount of material to be processed. Please let me know if the materials are needed immediately and I will try to accommodate your need.

How can I view a list of material I have on reserve for my course(s)?

Faculty, instructors, and students can view reserve lists by logging into the Reserve Direct website

Where can students check out reserve material?

Materials that have been placed on reserve are located at the Circulation desk on the first floor of the Kathryn A. Martin library.

Reserve items are checked out on a first-come, first-served basis. Only one reserve item may be checked out at a time.

Overdue reserve items will incur fines of $1.00 per hour around the clock up to a maximum of $15 per item. To avoid late charges return reserve materials promptly.
