For good results, get in the habit of using several search engines because no one search engine covers more than a fraction of the web.

The best search engines
These search engines search everything on the web - but not our databases - those are separate. (Sometimes, though, you can get to an article in one of our databases through a search engine because the provider recognizes that you are coming in through a UMD connection, and you get our "institutional access.")
- GoogleGoogle is most people's favorite search engine for searching the web, but click on Advanced Search to the right of the search box to get more power in your search.
- BingBing is Microsoft's search engine for the world wide web.
- YahooYahoo has a powerful search engine as well.
- BlekkoBlekko offers advanced search features and spam-free results.
- AskAsk.com is a search engine that is supposed to let you type in a question in ordinary language. It's worth trying.
