Undergraduate chemistry students should be aware of the scope and nature of scientific literature and be able to read and evaluate the chemical literature and follow a logical path of inquiry. In order to do that they should be able to understand the organization of the library and how to use various library tools and library services.
What to do if the UMD Library does not have an item you need.
1. If it is a book, check the All Campus Catalog to see if another campus has a paper copy of the title. If so, you can use the GetIt service. An explanation of GetIt and how to place a GetIt request is available.
2. If you can't get the item through the All Campus Catalog, you can request it through Interlibrary Loan. Go to: http://www.d.umn.edu/lib/ill/index.htm and fill out the appropriate form. It takes about a week to get an item.
